Original late 1930s/early 1940s WWII Tilt topper Hat With Matching Belt. This hat is from my own personal collection, which has been exhibited in Museums, Fashion Shows and has also appeared on the Antiques Roadshow. Sadly, lack of space is reluctantly forcing sale of part of my collection. This has got to be one of the Rarest sets ever and made by the most amazing milliners - John Frederics, who were responsible for the hats for Gone With The Wind and also for hatting such famous people as Mamie Eisenhower, Greta Garbo, Joan Crawford, Norma Shearer, Helen Hayes to name but a few plus all the upper echelons of New York society. Their work can be found today in the best museums in the world. This hat and belt is incredible. It was custom made - so it is very likely that only one of these sets was made and in existence. If only I knew who ordered it........ Whoever it was, I can see them wearing this hat and belt with an Adrian suit or dress - they would have looked amazing. The hat is a tilt topper and I have worn this. It grabs the eye as soon as a tiny gust of wind sets those tassels dancing and wherever I have been in it, I have started many conversations. Sadly, the belt is for approximately a 26 to 27 waist and was never going to fit me even when I was 12, lol. It is now time to pass it on to a new owner who can look after it and wear it with panache. Yes, it is pricey - but I did pay a heck of a lot more for it. It came from one of the very best American hat dealers - Torso Vintage who sell through 1st Dibs so you just know that it is unique. Condition is Used - this is in excellent vintage condition - there are minimal marks on the inner band from make up and one point to note is that the last hole on the belt is the one that has been used the most and is a little thin. Any reputable cobbler will be able to renew the end for you if you deem it necessary. This item has had a previous life and at least two previous owners! If you want something that is pristine, then this item is not for you. Please examine the images carefully before committing yourself and if in any doubt, please ask questions. I do, in the interests of the environment, reuse clean packaging wherever possible.
