ULTRA RARE NASA 1969 VINTAGE LUNAR MODULE MOONCRAFT ARTIFACT likely APOLLO 11. Ultra Rare NASA Apollo 1969 Vintage Lunar Module Mooncraft Artifact - very possibly the actual LM-5 THE'Eagle' for the Apollo 11 Moon Landing Mission Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation, LM Docking Light Protective Cover, Kennedy Space Center. This artifact was specifically designed and fabricated by Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation (GAEC) for the Apollo Lunar Module (LM) Spacecraft to protect one of the five multi-color docking lights located on the exterior of the LM Spacecraft.
This docking light cover was installed on the Lunar Module Spacecraft, after it was constructed at GAEC in Beth Page, NY, and it remained attached to the LM Spacecraft during transport to the NASA KSC and during pre-launch storage at this facility. It was removed just prior to the Saturn V Rocket Moon Shot launch at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida. This protective cover is constructed from a precision-molded, specially formulated polyurethane material chosen for its flexibility and chemical inertness. That material allows the cover to conformally fit the docking light on the exterior of the LM Spacecraft. Hardware Truncated Cone Side Polyurethane Embossed Nomenclature.

Hardware Base Lip Red Stamped Nomenclature & Certification Stamp (faded). Grumman Aircraft (Blue) Parts Tag Front.

Approximate dimensions: 2.5 inches x 4 inches in diameter. It is recommended to avoid exposing this relic to prolonged sunlight or any ultraviolet light to prevent possible deterioration or discoloration of the polyurethane compound. The last nineteen NASA images are for reference only, including LM Spacecraft and Apollo mission photos, as well as diagrams showing the location of the docking lights on the Lunar Module. Bell, a NASA Apollo engineer, and world-class collector of spaceflight hardware. The original NASA/Grumman part tag shown in the photos will be included in this sale. An extremely rare, unique, and likely a once in a lifetime opportunity to crown your NASA spaceflight history collection with this impressive Mooncraft display, as one of the very few to own an original Lunar Module artifact from the 1969 Apollo Moon Missions! Five docking lights mounted on the exterior of the LM provide visual orientation and permit gross attitude determination relative to a line of sight through the CSM windows during rendezvous and docking. For transposition and docking, the docking lights are turned on by a switch located at spacecraft Lunar Module adapter attachment points.

This switch is automatically closed upon deployment of the adapter panels. At the completion of the docking maneuver, LM power is turned off and the docking lights go off.

The lights are visible, and their color recognizable, at a maximum distance of 1,000 feet. As the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing is fast approaching, spaceflight missions grow farther reaching and ever bold, while we begin to experience a renaissance of international interest in spaceflight endeavors and technology. Still, only a few know about the possibility of collecting such historically significant artifacts, as these from the Space Programs, but that is beginning to change, in light of these events.

Over time, spaceflight artifacts are increasingly difficult to acquire and the value of these rare collectibles is very likely to rise dramatically. If you are a collector that is new to the niche of spaceflight hardware and seeking to diversify your portfolio, this is an excellent way to accomplish that with a unique and sound investment. These are heirlooms that will inspire and be admired by many generations to come. Thank you, and welcome to Space Mission Market! If any of this type of provenance / paperwork is not shown in the photos and specified as "included" in the listing, then it is not available or included in the sale. Artifact Flight Status: FLOWN = Spacecraft hardware / components, crew equipment, scientific instruments or other items / materials that have been flown. FLIGHT = Spacecraft flight qualified spares or backup hardware / components and engineering test articles made of the same components as the flight article. These are items that could have flown, but were not flown. Ground Support Equipment (GSE) = Non-flight space program hardware, equipment and scientific Instruments used in direct association with the spacecraft, spacecraft engineers and technicians. These are items that were used and made for ground support that may or may not have been in direct contact with the spacecraft prior to launch.
