A VINTAGE ZILDJIAN ISTANBUL K SPLASH CYMBAL, FACTORY STAMPED "F" FROM.... The stamp reads"ZILDJIAN CONSTANTINOPLE" which I believe is PRE 1928. One of the oldest I've ever seen! AND it's a SPLASH with a HUGE Hand Hammered, rounded BELL! I just had an old friend (thank you zenstat) direct me to his cymbal wiki page which is absolutely astonishing! Apparently this K Istanbul Zildjian was known in the catalog as a PAPER THIN DEEP CUT. I quote zenstat's entry right here (and definitely go look at his cymbal wiki site, it's amazing). In the 1941 Gretsch catalog there is an entry for a cymbal model called a Paper Thin Deep Cut. The bell shape is very different from the other two bells shapes from back then. Offered up for your enjoyment is this VERY Vintage Zildjian Istanbul K 10 Splash cymbal that is in FANTASTIC Condition. Nicks or cracks on this 90+ year old beauty! It's in EXCELLENT SHAPE with a deep, rich, dark brown century-old patina that has formed. I'm not sure what the "F" stands for, feel free to write if you know. I know "G" was for "Gretsch" etc. And I've seen a "GK" stamp that was actually made for and on a Gene Krupa cymbal. That's how it looks and plays. WAY early jazz, Dixieland, folk, parade, blues, early Americana, New Orleans , early Swing. Line, Ragtime, Preservation Hall vibe. Check out that glorious, hand-shaped bell. The hole measures just under. 5 like a 1940s Trans Stamp and the hand hammering and lathing is exquisite - very, very fine. This K almost looks like it was fashioned on a potter's wheel.
