This early cartoon masterpiece by Rick Griffin, later the master of psychedelic posters, was created in 1964 when Rick was staff cartoonist for Surfer Magazine. The 8 1/2 X 10 3/4 48-page softcover book is printed on heavy stock with color covers. Now an ULTRA RARE collectible, this book is very hard to find, especially in this condition.

As you may know, Rick Griffin achieved fame creating posters for the Bill Grahams Fillmore Auditorium and the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco, and was a favorite artist for the Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Big Brother & the Holding Company, and many other bands.Rick was a poster contemporary of Stanley Mouse, Alton Kelley, Victor Moscoso, Wes Wilson and other notables. Surfertoons, sometimes spelled Surfer Toons, was Griffins first masterpiece of cartooning in my opinion, even pre-dating Man From Utopia.
