Ultra Rare SLAG GLASS Antique PAIR Davidson Lion Hallmark Chalice Vase -Holiday
Extraordinary 1880 Davidson Lion Hallmark Malachite Slag Glass King Chalices Vases. Quite a sizable example by the renowned Davidson glassworks of England. I have provided a clear picture of the Davidson mark on the bottom of the item. Davidson was well known to produce malachite/slag glass in many different detailed patterns. It incorporated a process of blending two or more colors of glass in a semi viscous state to create a beautiful swirling effect of the colors.
This molten glass was then poured into molds and pressed until hardened. The pattern glass of England has always been known for very fine and clear detail. The chalices stand 101/4" tall with the top measuring 5" across, the base 4. After thorough examination I did notice a bead missing on the narrowest part of the base.It is hard to see because of the dark color. Chips of this type often occurred with this type of glass. No other damage or repairs noted.
