Ultra RARE Vintage LOUIS VUITTON Longwy Bowl Display Ashtray Jewelry Dish LV
What a wonderful and RARE to see LOUIS VUITTON piece! It was once listed in a Saks Fifth Avenue LV collection catalog under "Business and Pleasure". But actually, these pieces were actually created many, many years before Saks carried it. Said to have been created in the 1930's.
S and never offered for retail sale. They were displayed in early Boutiques as a place for patrons to ash their cigarettes and cigars. Whatever the history and folk lore... This is a very fine example of rare Louis!
Crafted in France by the renowned LONGWY Company. It is truly a gem to find available. You may well be the one and only proud owner of this exquisite item, as they are long discontinued and only come available once a collector decides to part with it - fortunate us! You will not come across this charming dish often! This is how the process was described....... The interior of the dish wears the ever so recognizable Louis Vuitton Monograms done in classic Longwy style of raised enamel. Made exclusively for Vuitton - this piece is multi-fired ceramic..... Fired once to create the biscuit, then the design is outlined in black paint to create the "walls" for the enamels. Then the enamels are hand applied and the piece is re-fired. The rim is bordered in black, which sets it off perfectly! Whether showing in a cabinet or atop a stack of old leather books - this piece is a perfectly handsome. So many places to show it off or display it..... Would be a wonderful piece to safely and handsomely keep your keys upon arriving home! That is part of the creative process and original to the dish! Has been in a china cabinet of late...
