ULTRA RARE VINTAGE - Rotring Foliograph 4 pen set from 1970s - unused. Foliograph is mentioned in 1969., this particular set is from 1976. Foliograph with noticeable gray body made of more resistant plastic and high quality tungsten carbide nip, later changed into gray isograph P. Made from solvent-resistant material and are therefore equally suitable for dissolving etching inks and regular drawing inks. 4 Pens with line thicknesses 0.25, 0.35, 0.5, 0.7mm for drawing on film. 1 adapter for compass dia 4mm - 533 340. 1 joint piece for stencil writing for foliograph m - 515 279. In plastic case with transparent top. The rotring foliograph is the answer to a great many problems. The surface of a drawing film can be well over a thousand times more abrasive then a good quality tracing paper. A conventional steel tipped drawing pens nib will wear very rapidly on an abrasive surface such as modern drafting films whereas the foliograph with tungsten carbide tip will not. Furthermore, whereas etching ink would destroy the plastic body of a normal drawing pen, the foliograph is manufactured of grey acetate resistant material. Thus, permanent, chemically based, etching inks can be applied on film, foil and plastic surfaces. Both water based and etching inks may be used in these pens. It is, however, essential that these two types of inks are never mixed. The pen must be thoroughly cleaned and dry when changing from chemically based ink to water based ink. When used on printed circuit boards, conductor patterns can be drawn and under normal circumstances these are completely resistant to the etching to which the boards are subjected. However, for this purpose, the foliograph pen must be used in conjunction with an etching ink. The pen is ideal for use on film for overhead projection work. Original display from Rotring museum.
